Run, Run, Run
Run, Run, Run, is part of the ‘Kunst am Bau’ projects of the city of Munich; where a percentage of the budget for each new public building is dedicated to an art project integrated within the building.
This project offered the exciting extra value of collaborating with fellow designer Pauline Deltour who invited me to join her in this project. It is always an invited competition which we were fortunate enough to win and have it all realised.
The future building is a primary school in a quiet neighborhood of Munich. The school’s ground has a special feature in the form of two alleys (80 and 120 meters long) connecting it to the adjacent streets.
Run, run, run, focuses on those alleys, it is a race track gone wild. A racetrack which with a wide smile redefines both the track and the race held on it.
The track engages in a dialogue with its surroundings; conquering a piece of the wall by flowing on it vertically, or deviating and uniting into one lane behind a tree and back to the course… It also integrates the iconic winner’s podium as the visual target to run to.
It offers an experience and a visual trigger, it redefines walking path by regarding it as an object, or a living entity that could be encouraged to express itself and even tease.
Interesting enough, we were the first designers invited to take part in what by itself seems like a perfect project for designers.
