”What Else Is There?” Exhibition

For the Milan design week of 2011 we have decided together with Mattiazzi to create a more free gallery like exhibition parallel to the one at the fair. With ”What Else Is There?” we wanted to very literally talk about what else is there besides purely design oriented discussions and presentations; suggesting we could also talk about other things… look more generally at culture, at music and it’s related visuals with a focus on each designers personality, favourites and possibly even influences. Here is a small text from the exhibition catalogue:

‘Nitzan Cohen, Sam Hecht, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and Konstantin Grcic are at the forefront of avant-garde design. Instead of focusing on their principles or philosophy of design, this exhibition looks at the influences behind the creators themselves. Supplementing their current work on view for the Italian furniture manufacturer Mattiazzi, an installation of music videos selected by the designers provides a look into their visual and cultural DNA. Fusing music and aesthetics, these video clips are a manifestation of popular culture. Thus, the respective relationships between product and cultural context provides unusual insights to the creative process of the designers, which are multi-layered
